Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor kids who would grow in the same household, figured out very early how to get out of the difficulties she faced by using her rich and imaginative imagination. Before she learned to read or write, Dolly Parton was creating her own songs. After 8 years of age, she was playing her first guitar. At age 11 she started singing on Knoxville Tenn's radio station. She recorded her first album during the same year with Gold Band Records, a small label that was an independent. Although she was at school, she already established herself within the local arena. But her dream was to be able to play on a larger size. The singer moved to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated TV show host at the time, was in search for a singer for his show. Parton began her career in 1967 and signed by RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974 after her own songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton composed I Will Always love You to Wagoner following their split. It made it to No. #1 for the first time in 1974.
